Digital Camera Care

By digitalphotorecovery

Digital camera is a very delicate piece of equipment. The most important and delicate component of a digital camera is its memory card. The memory card stores all you valuable and once in a lifetime shots. It is very important to take time and maintain it properly. If you take preventative measures to keep you digital camera in best conditions, it will last much longer.

What are those preventive measures? How are you going to do this? Here are a couple of things you can do for the maintenance for any digital camera.

1.  Never store batteries in the camera
After you are done with taking pictures and you are not using the camera for a period of time say 1-2 days, it would be best to remove the batteries from your digital camera and store them separately. No matter if you are using Lithium Ion batteries or AA rechargeable batteries. If you store the batteries in the camera, the power in the batteries will be slowly released. This way the batteries will slowly lose its power capacity and this in turn will affect the quality of pictures or videos you take.

2.  Do not remove the lens from the camera body in a dusty environment
Changing lenses in dusty circumstances is a major cause of a dirty sensor and spots on your images. To evade from this problem do not shoot or change lenses of your digital camera in any dusty circumstances.

3.  Lens cleaning
Lens is the most important component in any camera. To take care of the lens, make sure that you never, ever touch directly with your fingers. While cleaning the lens, always use a good lens brush, lens blower and lens cloth.

4.  Safeguard from extreme temperature
Digital cameras capture the heat or freeze very fast. Do not store you digital camera in a location that is too hot or cold.

5.  Keep away from Magnet
Keep you digital camera away from magnet/magnetic field because it may cause a reaction on the camera’s circuit. It is also preferred to keep it away from the electrical devices such as a television, hi-fi, or refrigerator.

6.  Store your camera in a padded camera bag
Always use a padded camera bag to store your camera. The padding will protect the camera when, inevitably, you drop it.

7.  Watch out for the memory card
Memory cards are very small and extra care should be taken for them. Always slot it with care. Never slot or remove the memory card while the camera is ON. This may corrupt the memory card and you may lose all the data stored in it.

8.  LCD screen
LCD screens will scratch if rubbed on. If you get some finger prints, or other non abrasive smudges on your screen, use Scotch Tape to clean them off.

9.  Protect from moisture and water
Some digital cameras are moisture tolerant and water soaking, and some are not. Modern lenses have quite a bit of electronics in them too and water can also cause problems. It is best to try and keep the cameras as dry as possible. Some digital cameras can take a little bit of moisture… just not total drenching.
